Travel Tips for Your Stay in Zanzibar
Visas
Tourist visas are available upon arrival at the airport. The cost is $50 USD per person. We recommend checking with your local embassy or official travel site for the latest entry requirements before you travel.
Health & Safety
Paje’s breezy climate is part of its charm, but it can occasionally bring a few mosquitoes. We suggest bringing mosquito repellent for added comfort. When exploring the sea, especially during low tide, we advise wearing water shoes as some areas may have sharp coral.
Tides
Located on Zanzibar’s east coast, Paje experiences significant tidal shifts every six hours. Low tide reveals long stretches of walkable beach, perfect for peaceful strolls in ankle-deep water. Mid-tide, which occurs most of the day, offers ideal conditions for swimming in crystal-clear waters.
Payments
Hakuna Majiwe Beach Lodge & Spa accepts Visa, MasterCard, and cash. Please note a 4% surcharge applies to card payments. We are unable to accept checks or PayPal.
While the nearest ATM is located in Stone Town (approximately one hour away), most local businesses accept card payments (often with a 5% fee). Commonly accepted currencies include USD, EUR, and Tanzanian Shillings (TZS). Kindly note that US dollar bills printed before 2010 are not accepted in Zanzibar.
